Drone Insurance

Drone Insurance

Do you operate a drone for your business?

Drones, known officially as Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), are generally not covered under a standard business or liability insurance as they regulated under Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

When you operate a Drone for business purposes, you are required to hold both a Remote Operators Certificate (ReOC) and a Controllers Certificate.

You can arrange insurance for your drone(s), which will generally cover the following:

  • Cover for damage drone, whilst in flight and whilst not in use
  • Theft
  • Public Liability – damage by impact of your drone
  • You payload (i.e. cameras, video surveillance, measuring or monitoring equipment)
  • Transit cover

There are various industries which have adopted the use of drones in day to day business. Some examples of those industries are:

Agriculture

Australian farmers are increasing in the use of drone to conduct aerial photography and inspections

Construction

The construction industry has heavily adopted the use of drone to complete assessment report of roofs, power lines, bridges are other large works.

Real Estate

A photo is worth a thousand words. Real Estates want the best photos to represent your home for sale. Drones are also used in commercial sales to show an aerial view of the property.

Delivery

The world is changing rapidly. For some companies, drones are being used to deliver coffee, packaged and even food!

Understanding when insurance is vital, and being able to deliver questions around licensing requirements will also be important in order to obtain the correct insurance.
